Protecting Tomorrow Today®

Ontario Parks Association (OPA), established in 1936, is a non-profit charitable organization whose focus is on Protecting Tomorrow Today┬«. Through our work as advocates for our parks and open spaces and the training we provide to parks professionals in Ontario, we are helping to preserve our living green infrastructure assets for future generations. OPA is a proud member of the Green Infrastructure Ontario Coalition.

Congratulations to City of Welland, winner of our Municipal Floral Display Competition. Make sure to visit their amazing #Canada150 floral display at Broadway and Prince Charles Drive in Welland, Ontario!

"We tried to incorporate the 150th logo into Canada's National Flag. We achieved this by using a combination of red and white begonias, red, green/yellow, and yellow alternanthera as-well-as silver santolina. These floral beds are extremely challenging to design, plant and maintain. Climatic conditions such as: high humidity, excessive moisture are two important considerations in the overall successful management of these beds. As a consequence, all maintenance practices are tailored around climatic conditions. The plants in this design may only be worked on when "dry", to avoid rapid spread of disease. Weekly clipping is necessary for the design to take shape and can only be performed when the plant material is "dry". Natural pest and disease control measures (IPM) are utilized towards this end. With the proper management of these issues, a successful and satisfying floral display is the reward!"
