SHAWN MURDY

Instructor of:

  • Invasive Species Workshop

Shawn Murdy is a horticulturist, landscape consultant, and invasive species professional with over 20 years of experience and is currently employed as a Horticulturist with the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Previously as a gardener with the City of Guelph, Shawn regularly designed, developed, implemented, and maintained ornamental landscapes, and lead staff in these activities. Within this role he also assisted and consulted with other departments in removing invasive species.

Shawn’s pursuit of invasive plant management started at the Town of Oakville, where he had a dedicated role in combating the explosion of Giant Hogweed within the Town’s watersheds, and educating park visitors on the dangers of this noxious plant.

With a studied love for flora, Shawn understands the impact plants have on our local environment. Sharing that passion and knowledge is what he loves to do on a daily basis. He engages regularly in community events, educating others on the importance of preserving native biodiversity, and working to conserve nature’s beauty.

Shawn grew up in Scarborough, where he discovered his love for the outdoors exploring Highland Creek. Outside of work you can find him playing and coaching local sports, fishing with his son, or even tending to his own garden.
